Clinical Diagnostic Testing for Cancer and Pregnancy

picture of test tubes

In our clinical research, we use patients' specimens to improve diagnostic testing for cancer. Chromagranin A is secreted by tumours of neuroendocrine origin. We compare different methods of detecting chromagranin A in a co-hort of patients with these tumours. Our methods differ with regard to sensitivity to the whole molecule of chromagranin A or to the whole molecule plus its breakdown products.

The second aspect of our research involves seeking methods to quality control an ultrasound measurement made in the 10-13th week of pregnancy. By using this measurement as a laboratory test, a Down syndrome risk calculation can be made.
