Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario - Martin L. Wills High School Student Scholarship
- for Ontario high school students to work in a cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular research environment
- for 2 months in the summer ($2250)
- applicants must have completed at least three years of high school
- deadline: Mar
Charles Hollenberg Summer Studentship Program
- introduces undergraduate and medical students to the field of diabetes research at the University of Toronto's Banting & Best Diabetes Centre
- high school students who have been accepted by a university undergraduate or medical degree program are eligible to apply
- for 12 weeks during the summer
- amount: $4800
- deadline: Jan
- offers financial support for organizations working with young Canadians to promote an understanding of science and engineering
- supports hands-on learning experiences for young students and their science teachers
- amount of $10,000-50,000/yr for 3 years
- deadline: Sept
Sanofi Aventis Biotalent Challenge (SABC)
- national program that pairs high school students from across Canada with local researchers
- students and mentors collaborate on lab-based, biotechnology projects that are designed by the students
- southwestern Ontario’s program is hosted by TechAlliance and includes students from London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Hamilton, and Guelph
- accepted students participate in a Regional Competition in early spring with the opportunity to earn significant cash prizes and scholarships to Western; top project moves on to the National Competition in Ottawa
Internal Funding
Partners in Experiential Learning in Health Research (PEL) in London, ON
- enhances education partnerships between researchers and London-area secondary schools
- offers high school students the chance to work in research laboratories
- participating research laboratories include childhood cancer, diabetes, experimental treatment, primary health care, and vascular and cerebrovascular training
