NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) in Universities
- stimulate interest in research in the natural sciences and engineering
- applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
- applicants must be registered in a bachelor's degree program at an eligible university
- supervisor must be faculty member who holds an active NSERC research grant (see website for exceptions)
- for 16 weeks ($4500 plus university contribution)

NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award in Industry
- stimulate interest in research in the natural sciences and engineering
- applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
- applicants must be registered in a bachelor's degree program at an eligible university
- research performed at R&D facilities of eligible organizations in Canada
- for 16 weeks ($4500 plus employer contribution)
- deadline: 4 weeks before start of work term
Charles Hollenberg Summer Studentship Program
- introduces undergraduate and medical students to the field of diabetes research at the University of Toronto's Banting & Best Diabetes Centre
- high school students who have been accepted by a university undergraduate or medical degree program are also eligible to apply
- for 12 weeks during the summer
- amount: $4800

CIHR Studentships in Mobility, Musculoskeletal Health, and Arthritis Across the Lifespan
- for undergraduate and health professional students to participate in research projects with established health researchers
- applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a Canadian university

Endocrine Society Summer Research Fellowships
- for undergraduate students (in or beyond 3rd year), medical students, and first year graduate school students to pursue careers in endocrinology
- students participate in research projects under the guidance of a Society member
- for 10 to 12 weeks during the summer

Canadian Hemophilia Society (CHS) - Summer Studentships in Hemophilia Research
- for medical students in any year/science students in 3rd or 4th year
- applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants
- requires acceptance by a scientist involved in a current hemophilia research project supported by CHS or another major granting agency
- for 4 months during summer ($6000) to do hemophilia research

Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario - John D. Schultz Science Student Scholarship
- for students enrolled in a university undergraduate science program
- allows university science students to work in a cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular research environment
- for 3 months during summer ($4,000)
- deadline: Mar (check website: scholarship is not offered every year)
Stem Cell Network (SCN) - Undergraduate Research Training Award and Co-op Award
- for salary of an undergraduate/co-op student to work on a research project with clear relevance to stem cells
- applicants must be working towards their undergraduate degree at a Canadian university and be enrolled in either an undergraduate or co-operative program for the entire duration of their first work term
- supervisors for the placement must be SCN Principal Investigators
- amount: $10,000 for 2 four-month work-terms, which may be contiguous

Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Summer Studentships
- provide support to undergraduate students who undertake a summer research project relevant to cystic fibrosis
- applicants must be full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline
- supervisor must be a cystic fibrosis clinic director or researcher
- time: 3 months in the summer

Parkinson’s Disease Foundation - Summer Student Fellowships
- to support undergraduates, graduates, and medical students in the pursuit of Parkinson's-related summer research projects
- amount: $3000 for 10 weeks in the summer

Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF) - Summer Studentships
- for undergraduate students to pursue liver-related research projects under the guidance of leading liver researchers
- amount: $4,000 for 3 months

Ontario Genomics Institute - Summer Research Fellowships
- offer undergraduate students a unique opportunity to engage in research in genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, or GE³LS (genomics-related ethical, economic, environmental, legal, and/or social issues)
- for Ontario residents and undergraduate students in their first, second, or third year at Ontario universities working towards their first degree in any recognized program
- funding available for up to six research fellows ($5000 each)

Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) – Connections Program
- for collaborations between final year undergraduates (preferably in teams) and industry partners
- for addressing a technology problem defined by the participating company

- for students who are 15 to 30 years old and are returning to school in the fall
- program provides free services to improve your job-search and self-marketing skills
- provides a $2/hour wage support for eligible Ontario employers
Service Canada - Canada Summer Jobs
- provides funding for not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees
- funds create high-quality summer job opportunities for students

Internal Funding
- opportunity for students to work part-time on campus in jobs that accommodate their studies
- assists students in financial need with a regular source of income that does not add to their debt load
- offers students training and experience
- offered for both the fall/winter term and the summer term
- applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents
- applicants must be Western students in second year or above in an undergraduate or professional program (some exceptions made for first year students)
- applicants must demonstrate genuine financial need
- for the fall/winter program, students must be registered at main campus in a minimum 60% course load (40% course load for students with disabilities)
- for the summer program, students must take a minimum of one half credit
- provides current Western students with practical experience and the opportunity to enhance their learning and civic responsibility while addressing campus community needs
- students are limited to 3-10 hours of work per week in order to ensure appropriate focus on academic study and other extra-curricular activities
- access to a wide range of experience-oriented volunteer opportunities with faculty and professionals in the Western community
Biochemistry Undergraduate Summer Research Program at Western
- for undergraduate students to obtain research experience in the Dept. of Biochemistry at Western
- Western and non-Western undergraduate students eligible (see restrictions)
- amount: ~$6,000 (May to mid-August)
