Facility Policy
Access
The Functional Proteomics Facility (FPF) is located in Medical Science
Building (MSB), room 351. The FPF is open on weekdays from
9:00 am until 5:00 pm. During these hours, the Facility staff
will be
available for training and consultation regarding the instruments.
Following training, the staff
or student card can be registered in order to gain card access to the
facility after hours. During after hours, the user will be held
responsible for
ensuring that doors are kept locked at all times and that lights
and instruments are turned off before leaving.
Reservations
All instruments, other than the Digestor, can be reserved using
sign-up sheets or by contacting facility staff.
Responsibilities of Users and their Supervisors
Users must be trained by the Facility staff to ensure safe usage of the
equipment.
Log books are provided for each instrument and users are expected to
log in their time of usage. When the work is complete, the user should
ensure that the work area is left clean. Any problems or concerns
can be noted in the log books or the user can contact the Facility
staff.
In the event of instrument damage due to abuse, misuse, or
unauthorized use, the research supervisor will be held financially
responsible for the cost of repair or replacement.
Data and Computer Maintenance
Users are encouraged to back up their data shortly after
acquisition. Due to limited storage capacity hard drives will be
cleaned off monthly and the facility will not be held responsible for
loss of any data files.
Downloading of programs onto the facility computers is prohibited. If you feel that the computer is lacking a critical program, contact the Facility staff and a decision will be made as to whether or not additional software will be installed on the computer.
Finally, each computer in the facility is set up with parameters specific to the instrument software. Users are asked not to change any computer or program settings.
Billing
The facility will charge fees in order to cover the cost of consumables
and instrument operating costs as defined in the fee section. Users
must provide a valid speedcode or account number for invoicing.
Invoices will be submitted quarterly and e-mailed to the research
supervisor electronically.
- Failure to comply with the above policies will result in loss of privileges -
